Three senior girls at Lake Highlands High School have received significant college athletic scholarships to pursue their athletic and educational careers. This trio is composed of Ava Murcer, Landry Addison and Keann Guthrie.
Addison received a full athletic scholarship to Arkansas Tech University for golf.
“I started golf right before freshman year,” Addison said. “Growing up I was a competitive dancer, but once COVID hit, I decided that dance wasn’t for me anymore.”
Addison explained that golf was a family sport.
“My grandfather, my dad, and my brother Blake (who is an LH alumni and former golf team captain) all loved it and played recreationally, so they convinced me to give golf a try and I ended up falling in love with it,” she exclaimed.
It was her freshman year when Addison decided to pursue golf seriously.
She then stated her excitement.
“I am really excited for college golf because I know the environment will help me not only grow as a player, but also as a person,” Addison finished
Murcer started playing golf her freshman year and has received an athletic scholarship to Blinn College.
“My dad played in college, so he influenced me to try it out and I fell in love with the game,” Said Murcer.
Murcer expressed enthusiasm on why she chose to expand her career.
“The thing I’m excited most for is just to grow as a player and have the ability to experience college as an athlete,” Murcer said. “I’ve loved being on the high school team and meeting so many people from this sport!”
Guthrie received an athletic scholarship to North Carolina State University for diving.
“I started diving my freshman year after quitting gymnastics because I wanted to try new sports and explore different opportunities, “ she said.
She said she is excited her about this opportunity.
“What excites me the most about continuing to pursue my athletic and educational career is pushing boundaries and getting the opportunity to see my full potential.”
Because of their drive and determination, these three ladies have been given the title ‘The Power Trio.’ Congratulations, and go Wildcats!
