The Wranglers spread Texas cheer in DC, celebrating the presidential inauguration at the Black Tie and Boots Ball! They have been representing Lake Highlands High at this ball since 1997.
The Black Tie and Boots Ball “brings together all of the Texans who work in DC for a night to celebrate Texas,” Wrangler director Carese Bott said.
This is Bott’s first year as the Wrangler’s director, and with the help of the six captains, she prepared the group for the special night.
“We practice during Wrangler class, after school, and we will be practicing each night in the hotel in DC before the ball,” she stated.
Because of the scale of this event, getting ready didn’t come without its challenges.
“As with any large performing group, it is a challenge to get perfect timing down for every move. We dance so fast and our stunts are difficult, it’s a challenge to have the timing down perfectly-but we come close,” she continued.
The team’s performance included both old and new choreography.
“We will be dancing a mashup of some of our favorite performances this year mixed with some performances to some Texas themed songs,” Bott mentioned.
On top of the inauguration celebration, the Wranglers were also performing at the Walter Reed Hospital for veterans, and laying the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
