The Lake Highlands Girls Golf team has achieved a major victory this season by winning the 9th Annual Mounger Memorial Tournament.
Landry Addison (12) led the team and won first place with 77 strokes, with Ava Murcer (12) following one stroke behind.
Addison began as a dancer before freshman year, but switched to playing golf to follow her dad’s and brother’s footsteps, as they played as well.
“Monkey see, monkey do,” Addison said.
As Addison prepares for her future, she said that she has just signed and committed to Arkansas Tech University to play golf.
“I get to play in the fall, and I’m really excited,” she said.
Murcer’s dad was her primary inspiration to play the sport. She has also received a scholarship to Blinn College.
Murcer and Addison often practice at the Firewheel golf course together outside of school.
Coach Jim Kratz, the varsity girls golf coach, guides the team to practice several times a week at various golf courses, including Keeton golf club, Peril golf club , and Dallas Athletic Club.
“By doing that we can see where we have strengths and weaknesses, which we can work on,” Kratz said.
Addison, Murcer, and the rest of the team work well together.
“This group of lady golfers really enjoy being around each other,” Kratz said.
