The school’s talented actors put on a captivating performance of Once Upon a Mattress for their annual musical. The show starred Ella Gonzalez (12) who played Princess Winnifred and Reid Negron (12) who played her lover, Prince Dauntless.

The two leads were accompanied by Anna Reese Temple (12) as Queen Aggravain, Freddy Somers (12) as the Minstrel, Channing Black (10) as the Jester, John Gillespie (11) as King Sextimus, Katherine Pottkotter (11) as Lady Larken, Jude Scott (10) as Sir Harry, and Greysen Wallace (12) as the Wizard.

Narrated by the Minstrel, the musical followed a love story that began with the search of a suitor fit for Prince Dauntless. Sir Harry searched far and wide for the perfect wife for Dauntless, eventually discovering Princess Winnifred. She quickly managed to steal the prince’s heart, but Dauntless’s mother, Queen Aggravian, disapproved of her. 

Throughout the show, the dynamic duo of the silent King Sextimus and the Jester provided Dauntless with valuable assistance during his troubling situation. After meeting the Minstrel, the group helped Lady Larken escape the kingdom with her unborn child to find a better life away from loyalty.

The musical was filled with plenty of fun moments and lots of love from the actors. It goes without saying that Once Upon a Mattress has cemented itself in the hearts of everyone involved.
