If you often find yourself with lots of extra time on your hands, you should look into joining one of our school’s many unique and enriching clubs! Some will deepen your knowledge while others are great to get to know new people. Whatever you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it in one of these clubs.
Garden and Environment Club
The Garden and Environment Club teaches students about plant cultivation and the environment. It’s a relaxing space where you can grow herbs and participate in garden related arts and crafts. Whether you’re new to the gardening world or have a long standing love for the hobby, this club is a perfect place to unwind and gain some new knowledge on the environment. To join, show up to one of their meetings which take place every other Thursday from 4:30 to 5:15 in Ms. Hranitzky’s room, H-A206.
Cosmetology Club
The Cosmetology Club plans fundraisers to support the Cosmetology Program, so they can have the tools and products needed for them to learn with. Through food sales, fashion shows, and salon & spa service days, students will be able to raise money for the program and improve their team building. They will also gain the skills required for the beauty industry and graduate with a cosmetology license. Only students in the Cosmetology Program can join, so you’ll need to speak with your counselor to enroll. They meet during cosmetology class and after school on Tuesdays.
Creative Writing Club
In this club, students will develop and enhance their creative writing skills through writing activities, peer feedback, and games. You’ll also get to make friends with the other students as you help each other to refine your writing. It’s a great choice for any bookworms or aspiring authors. Stop by Mr. Horton’s room in H-A310 to join! Meetings take place there from 4:30 to 5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Criminal Justice Club
In the Criminal Justice Club, students will learn how to use walkie-talkies, learn the phonetic alphabet, hear from guest speakers, and go on field trips. They will also explore the different parts of the criminal justice field, so they can be prepared if they go into criminal justice related jobs in their future. You can go to one of their meetings held on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 5:20 in H-A211 to join.
Equality Coalition
Equality Coalition’s goal is to make Lake Highlands a place where everyone feels like they belong by raising awareness of injustice and celebrating LHHS’s diversity. They discuss and advocate for changes that will help our campus to be more inclusive. The club promotes a variety of events like Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, and Black History Month. If you’d like to join, show up to one of their meetings which take place in L-A202 after school on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
