It’s not every year that we get to see an LHHS athlete go to an ivy league school for sports… except that it is.
Following in the footsteps of Samson Aleton (‘23, Yale) and Miron McGee (‘24, Columbia), senior Matthew Hutchinson has committed to play baseball at Yale University!
After picking up “America’s pastime” at age six, Hutchinson soon realized that baseball was his sport and has continued playing all through high school.
“I have enjoyed the friends and memories I have made. I found my best friends in baseball, learned so much from coaches, and had tons of fun,” Hutchinson commented on his baseball experience at LHHS.
Balancing both baseball and academics is challenging enough, but add band to the mix, and you are battling a brand new beast of a schedule.
“That took a lot of late nights and early mornings and I rarely had true free time but I was doing things that I loved and I was thinking about future payoff rather than small pleasures in the present,” Hutchinson mentioned on juggling school, sports, and band.
Through the tribulation and triumphs, Hutchinson attributes his success to his discipline, obsession, competitiveness, and future-oriented mind.
These traits will be necessary next year as he continues to play baseball at Yale and intends to major in a field of engineering.
