Javon Mentus (11) is the first new mascot in three years!
Mentus decided to be this year’s varsity cheer mascot alongside Grace Brennan (9) who is the freshman cheer mascot.
“I decided to be this year’s mascot because it seemed like a fun thing to do while supporting our school,” Mentus said.
Mentus said it is difficult to perform his best being in a suit during high-temperature football games, however the part he enjoys the most is the silly interactions he gets to have with the kids.
“Being the mascot has helped me by keeping me involved with the school and community.” Mentus remarks.
Coach Alan Kirby, varsity cheer coach, said Mentus is a phenomenal performer and a game-changer for athletic events.
“Javon has completely owned the role and gone above and beyond what I could have imagined,” Kirby stated. “He’s brought so much personality and excitement to every game and school event. People love watching him perform, and it’s clear that he loves what he’s doing.”
Kirby sees something in Mentus and is excited about what he contributes to the Lake Highlands as a whole.
“He brings an energy that amplifies everything the cheerleaders and athletes are doing on the field or court.” Kirby comments. “He’s truly embraced the role and brings the Cats’ spirit to life!”
