Recently, Lake Highlands’s Folklorico team has managed to cement themselves as a force to be reckoned with within the world of dance—they won a total of 11 awards at the Bailes de Mi Tierra Folklorico Competition!
Nicole Botello Caudillo (11) got third for beginner solo, Priscilla Hernandez (9) got first for beginner solo, Aranza Hernandez Alberto (10) and Violeta Tablas (10) got second for beginner duet, and Ariel Hernandez (12) and Celine Del Angel (10) got third for intermediate duet.
This was the sixth year the team has competed in the Bailes de Mi Tierra Competition, and they managed to break their previous record of 8 awards!
For group awards, the Seniors Baja California team got third for beginner ensemble, Team Chiapas got third for beginner small group, Team Nayarit Costa got second for beginner small group, Team Yucatan got third for beginner large group, Team Jalisco got second for beginner large group, Team Sinaloa got first for beginner large group, and Team Veracruz got first for beginner cuadro.
The Folklorico director, Lydia Corwin, shared her enthusiasm for the team’s win.
“I’m personally thrilled with the outcome of the competition! It’s always a competitive process and all we can do is our best, so receiving 11 trophies is above and beyond the goals we had set.”
This win didn’t come easy, though; each member of the team had to put in a lot of effort to make it possible.
“I’m really proud of this team for their hard work and dedication,” praised Ariel Hernandez (12), the captain of the team.
Corwin hopes that competing has helped her students to feel more confident in their abilities.
“I’ve always told the team that my goal for them is that when they walk off that competition stage, they’re proud of themselves and they know that they did everything they could and performed their best,” she stated. “The trophies are a cherry on top of a wonderful experience.”
