When you hear Jam Club, what do you think? While some may think it’s an entire club dedicated to making sandwiches, it’s actually a space for students at Lake Highlands to connect through music.
“It’s for people who stand out and feel alone, that want to join for people with the same interests,” stated club president Kennidi Meeks (12).
Jam club is open to anyone, from the experienced to students who just want to listen to music.
“If you like music, it’s a good club. There’s a lot of people in it. It’s fun, goofy, and you can hear music for an hour,” commented club guitarist Aidan Castro (11).
In the club, there is also a band called Vangz, where the more experienced members practice and perform.
“There are two sides: the club members talking about music and the band members practicing for the next events,” Meeks said.
Vangz has had a handful of performances this year already during lunch or at the latest pep rally, with more in the works. They’ve played hit songs from groups like Nirvana and Metallica.
Club sponsor Daniel Ivy notes the band’s ambitions by saying “the club wants to form a band and perform all over.”
The diverse set of music and people makes the Jam Club a place of inclusivity, and entertainment, giving students a place to show their love for music in a variety of ways.
“The main purpose of the club is for people who really like music. Anyone can join if they like music,” Castro added.
The club meets after school bi-weekly on Thursday in H-B304 and encourages anyone to join!
