World Day, the cultural phenomenon that has occurred at our school for several years, is coming back in an expanded form for a full week!
“We expanded from World Day to World Week to give more time to celebrate all the cultures we have here at Lake Highlands and to have more time on the Friday of World Week for food and performances,” Nick Whitham said.
Equity Coalition Officer Kaitlyn Worthey (12) explained that the last day will include a raffle, henna tattoos, food samples, and dance performances. The first few days are scheduled so that students have more time to visit informational booths.
Although this event has been in the works for a while, the struggle has been real.
“The biggest challenge has been contacting local businesses to receive donations for prizes and food,” Whitham states. “It’s also been a challenge getting the word out about World Week and finding student volunteers to represent different countries and cultures.”
Ryan Robinson (12), an Equity Coalition officer, said it gives students more time to participate, gain extra credit, win prizes, and eat lunch.
The Equity Coalition Club has arranged for this special event to happen on March 31 to April 4 during all four lunches!
