There is an invasion going on in C-Hall…tape humans! They are the latest exhibit placed into the Art Gallery, showing off a variety of moveable sculptures made of tape.
The piece was created by various students of art teacher Tina Walker and took a little over a month to complete.
“The inspiration behind the art sculpture installation was to capture everyday life of students in an art class and how they interact with each other,” Walker stated.
The sculptures are just the beginning of Walker’s vision for the gallery.
“In the past, we have used the gallery to display teacher’s artwork as well as individual senior art exhibits. Our future plan for the gallery is to exhibit our feeder school’s artwork,” Walker added.
These changes would make LHHS a central source for the visual arts in our district. Walker has collaborated with the Director of Visual Arts in RISD Myron Stennett to make this happen.
“Lake Highlands High School is an ideal setting for this initiative because of its rich arts culture, central location in the network of surrounding elementary and junior high schools, and the existing gallery space that is both accessible and inspiring,” Stennett explained.
Students not attending LHHS would be able to view our gallery through family nights, field trips, and other showcase events.
This initiative by our art department will bring light to the visual arts, and motivate students all across RISD to pursue the arts further.
“When students see their work on display in a gallery—framed, curated, and celebrated—it sends a powerful message: your voice matters, your ideas are worth sharing, and your creativity has value,” Stennett mentioned.
