The girls soccer team finished their regular season being number one in the district, but their very successful season ended in a loss during the first round of playoffs.
Head coach Katie Mellus spoke about how the team bonded throughout the season.
“They have gotten really close and I think more and more throughout the season, they are really playing for each other,” says Mellus.
The team ended their season in the playoff game with Coppell that went into two overtimes, resulting in a loss. The playoff game had a delayed start of 10 p.m. due to weather, ending at 1:00 a.m. with a score of 1-2 .
Xochitl Galindez (12) said the final game of the season was bittersweet.
“It was my last game for Lake Highlands ever and I had the best team to share it with,” Galindez states.
Mellus said the team worked harmoniously.
“This team is really special. They have a great chemistry and they win as a team not (just) as individuals,” Mellus says.
Ashyln Steele (12) said that the team is composed of close friendships.
“We are all best friends, we fought for each other and did all we could to keep the season going,” Steele remarks.
