The Varsity Theatre team earned alternate to area at bi-districts– the highest LHHS has ranked at UIL in the last decade!
Caddo Lindsey, the head theater director, said their department is working on raising the bar each year and working with new material that hasn’t been done before.
“Our goal at the beginning of the year was not winning competitions, but creating a show that the kids were proud of no matter the outcome,” Lindsey said. “Once we advanced out of the district, I wanted the team to walk away with a sense of pride, hope, and hunger to continue to improve their craft.”
Chloe Kubalak (12), assistant stage manager, explained that they performed “Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” from the author Dwayne Hartford.
Kubalak said Varsity UIL is a long and rigorous process; however, it’s all about teamwork.
“The crew and cast must work hand in hand in this production, on the set, costumes, lines, and so much more,” Kubalak said. “My classmates and I began right after the musical by reading the script for our UIL play and went straight into rehearsals during class. We spent time after school and in free periods working on this wonderful show.”
Greysen Wallace (12), set designer, stated that the most challenging part of practicing for UIL was the limited time they had to prepare for it.
“Learning an entire script, blocking, technical cues and more in under three months is pretty wild,” Wallace said.
Their win was not an easy feat, getting to that level was a difficult task to accomplish.
“We have an incredibly tough bi-district bracket every year with teams that make it to state yearly, so this year’s placement shows growth and feels like a success overall,” Lindsey said. “I am incredibly proud of the team!”
