Sweets for Service is cooking up a storm at LHHS, making tantalizing sugary treats for the whole community!
Brooklyn Walker (11) started her own baking club, Sweets for Service, to provide delicious treats for Lake Highlands staff and students.
“I wanted to create a space for others who like to bake, to make friends and give back to the community at the same time,” she explained.
Members will get to hear from guest speakers with baking experience, decorate cookies, and participate in baking challenges. It will be a great opportunity to form new friendships with others who love the art.
“The purpose of the club is to give back to the school and community while also creating a space for people who enjoy baking to come together and have fun!” Walker mentioned.
A key aspect of Sweets for Service is actually in their name—service! They bake not only for fun but to give their delicious creations to others.
“By contributing to service organizations and events, members will see how these seemingly small acts, like baking cookies, can support larger goals while also bringing people together,” stated club sponsor Christina Ancheta.
The club plans to meet in L-E203 after school one Tuesday per month with specific dates posted on their Instagram (@lhsweetsforservice) and Schoology group.
Eventually, Walker hopes that the club can participate in various school events such as Fun Food Friday and World Week.
“I would love to highlight different cultures through desserts, and think that it would be a great opportunity to bring people together,” she shared.
If you’d like to provide your treat-making expertise to the club, there is an interest form and a Schoology group you can join.
