The State Fair of Texas stopped giving out free tickets to high school students and I don’t think it’s right. We grew up on free state fair tickets. The fair is what teenagers look forward to in the beginning of the school year, so hearing that we will have to pay to get in is upsetting. They should have never taken them away.
The State Fair of Texas stopped giving out free high school student tickets because of rising costs, increased safety concerns involving high school-aged attendees, and low redemption rates.
According to CBS news, the redemption rate for free tickets was 10 percent, and the fair prints over 2 million every year that are not used.
High school students do not need a printed paper for free entry. There are many different ways we can receive state fair tickets such as QR codes or emails. Why punish the 10 percent who actually go?
I can see why safety can be a concern knowing that every year there’s always a fight or just people playing around immaturely. There are usually families with little kids coming to have fun. It’s reasonable for them to think that taking our free state fair tickets is the only option, but there’s other ways to solve it. Maybe they need more security so high school students don’t get out of hand.
I don’t agree with taking state fair tickets away from high school students and hope in the near future they make a solution instead of taking it away from the kids that enjoy going.
