One of our very own is becoming an Aztec! Owen Faris (12) has committed to San Diego State University, and will be playing soccer for the university.
Faris fell in love with the sport when he started playing 15 years ago.
Over the years, he has been working towards making it his career, and SDSU gives him the opportunity to do so.
“Playing professionally is something that I’ve wanted to do all my life, and the college pathway gives me that chance to play professionally,” Faris mentioned.
According to the NCAA rating percentage index, SDSU is currently in the top 20 for division one.
Soccer coach Timothy Guinnee played a major role in Faris’ career, improving his mindset on and off the field.
He believes that Faris will be a good fit for the school because of his playstyle, stating that “they are lucky to have him.”
“SDSU wants to initiate the scoring and not sit back and wait,” he said. “Owen puts the ball forward into dangerous scoring opportunities.”
Faris is also committed to pursuing higher education, planning to major in finance or business.
During his time at the university, he hopes to “balance education with athletics and find success within the soccer team.”
