Diving into Austin, senior Jordis Watkins had the astounding opportunity to compete at the state championship diving meet.
Watkins made history as the first diver from Lake Highlands to advance to state. She took advantage of the opportunity and placed in the top 15.
She faced some adversity to make it to this elite level.
“It felt so amazing to compete in the state meet again since last year I dealt with an injury and couldn’t go,” she said.
Watkins will not end her diving career in high school. In the fall, she is attending Georgia Southern University, where she will be on the diving team.
“I’m looking forward to getting to compete at a higher level and being challenged by my teammates, coaches, and competitors next year,” she added.
Coach Carter has been coaching swim and dive for decades and thinks the sky is the limit for Watkins.
“Jordis is a very talented diver with a lot of God given abilities. If she is committed to diving in college, she will be able to compete on the national level,” he mentioned.
