It’s very bittersweet to say goodbye to these past four years of my life.
I’m from the beautiful state of New Mexico, but I moved here to Dallas at the beginning of my freshman year.
I faced a lot of hardships when I moved. I’d always lived in the same place at that point in my life, and on top of that, Dallas was a big city with crazy traffic and crazier people (no offense). Luckily, I slowly got used to my life here, and I ended up transferring to LHHS for my sophomore year, which is also when I took journalism.
Journalism was an incredibly funny class. While I still wasn’t the most talkative person, my favorite memories of that time were listening to the crazy things my peers would say.
In junior year, I became a writer for the Fang, and this year, I had the privilege to be the editor-in-chief.
Being part of this program has been an incredible experience. I loved being able to write about things I was passionate about or features that highlighted how incredible the students here are.
Mrs. Macias, thank you for supporting me and the rest of the staff. You are a great teacher and mentor and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the opportunities you and this program have given me.
Bo Richardson, I hope you are still checking up on the Fang. Thank you for being a role model for me. You are the reason I strived to be the editor and writer I could be.
To the incredible staff that worked with me this year, you guys made my job very easy. You are all very talented and kind people, and I wish you all the best in your future. Brooke and Akira, I know both of you will do a great job running the Fang next year. Keep up the good work, I know you guys will be great leaders.
To my friends, thank you for being there for me and helping me when things got rough. I hope we are all able to stay in touch in the future, but either way, thank you for all the funny things we’ve gone through.
Paulina, I am so happy I met you. The past two years have been amazing and I want to thank you for being a part of staff this year. You are a very talented individual and I can’t wait to go through this new part of our lives together. You will always have a special place in my heart, and as cheesy as it sounds, I can’t wait to tell people that we were high school sweethearts.
To my mom and dad, I will be walking the stage soon, and I wouldn’t be able to do that if it wasn’t for how you raised me. I will continue to make you two proud. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made for me and my brother.
To me, the high school experience is both the best and worst years of your early life, but either way, the most important. Give yourself and everything you do a purpose, and grow to be the best person you can possibly be. Be responsible and be yourself.
“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does.” -Jean-Paul Sartre
