It was a historical season for the Lake Highlands boys soccer team, posting a 17-4 record which is the lowest number of games lost in the last decade.
Their success in the regular season and district carried into the postseason where they reached the regional finals for the second time in 4 years.
Head coach Tim Guinee has been at the helm for both of the regional final teams, and sees some similarities between the two.
Both teams had “team chemistry and level of play the team brought to the field every time they stepped onto the field,” Guinee said.
The level of play on defense was beyond elite. Over the 14 game district schedule, the Wildcat defense allowed a remarkable 0.92 goals per game.
Senior goaltender Evan Beltran was the barrier that keeps the opponents out of the net.
He could take a lot of credit for the incredible stats they posted this year, but he chooses to have a team mentality.
“The only thing I set for myself was to keep the team focused and to push my teammates the whole game to come out with a win,” he added.
There are 14 graduating seniors from this team, so there will be a lot to replenish. Coach Guinee has led two completely different teams on deep playoff runs, so a third wouldn’t be a shock.
“The seniors cannot be replaced, but hopefully the players next year will continue the high standard the seniors this year set,” he added.
