In March, LHHS’s very own Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras stunned with their performances at the UIL Concert.
Both orchestras earned a sweepstakes award for receiving a 1 on stage performance and sight reading. The score is determined by the categories Tone, Musical Understanding, and Technique.
“Earning a 1 means we were ‘consistent’ in all three categories and it resulted in a superior performance,” explained director Raphaelle Siemers.
With only eight weeks to learn three pieces each, the orchestras had to put in a lot of practice both at school and home, and their efforts clearly paid off.
“The students really showed up and showed out. Their performances were great and Mrs. Moore and I were really proud of the students,” Siemers commented.
The concert judges had their own praises to share as well.
“Great opening! So much energy in your playing, and you are making the most out of every articulation and dynamic,” one judge added about the Chamber Orchestra.
This success is a great achievement for the entire school, but it’s especially important to the students who made it happen.
“I’m very proud of the results we got from UIL. I believe that we worked very hard and paid attention to details to make sure the pieces of music were pristine,” expressed freshman Sophie Muder.
