The Lake Highlands theater department is performing the school musical, The Addams Family, from Jan. 29 through Feb. 1.
Caddo Lindsey is the head director of this musical and collaborates with many fine arts departments within the school. He picked The Addams Family because he wanted to find a musical that was modern and the students would get excited about. Lindsey wanted the content to push the students, but not be out of the realm of expertise.
“I really liked messages about bringing communities of different kinds together that are shown in The Addams Family,” Lindsey described.
The band and orchestra are playing music for it, conducted by assistant band director Marcus Cardenas. Dance instructor Lydia Corwin is choreographing the dance numbers, and assistant choir director Kelly Moss is the music director.
The tech theater department is running the technical aspects of the musical, such as the lights, sets, and costume design, and is hosting it in the auditorium. The auditions were schoolwide so the cast is not exclusively theater members.
“I’ve helped coordinate all the different departments, so we’re all going towards one vision,” Lindsey said.
Once the dances are choreographed and the songs are learned, they’re able to have full rehearsals with the pit orchestra, sets, lights, and costumes.
Producing a musical is a very extensive and laborious process, but it’s all worth it in the end.
“I’m excited to see everything come together and see all the departments working together. Seeing the end product of the whole show is always so rewarding,” commented Xavier Reyes (12), stage manager and theater president.
The musical performances are open to the public in the auditorium and tickets are sold online on the LHHS theater website or at the door before performances start.
