Most students at Lake Highlands High School are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
About 55 percent of 200 people at Lake Highlands who responded to a poll about life after high school choose healthcare over other programs.
Selselah Niazi is a junior who has already decided on healthcare, and says she’s always wanted to do this ever since she was young.
“I have always found how the body works very interesting,” she said.
She attributes the interest in the field to the show Grey’s Anatomy and the pay range.
“Others are interested in healthcare from a young age or they just got inspired from someone in healthcare.”
There’s a lot of different options in healthcare, but right now, Niazi wants to be a sonographer.
“The reason why I chose Sonography is because I’ve been there and I liked it so much,” she says.“It’s a very calm place.”
Students interested in going into healthcare can join a pathway where they take theory classes, learn through a practicum and complete clinicals where they go to hospitals. Contact the counselor’s office for more information.
